Picerno sings in a spine-tinglingly stratospheric soprano

Houstonia Magazine

A veteran of the New York Opera Company, Piecerno provides one of the few truly breathtaking moments in the show as her glorious soprano easily filled the concert hall during the title song—a “big moment” when Christine makes a choice just by appearing onstage. Standing there in an incredible costume (all of the costumes are stunning), Picerno held the room transfixed as the final notes reverberated.

Christine, in peacock blue flounced gown, stands in front of a peacock feather backdrop. As the music rises in intensity, her pin spot enlarges so the feathery background glows white hot. It's the best effect in the show, and the one most simple to produce. Picerno's rendition stops the show.

Meghan Picerno is truly radiant as Christine, and her rendition of the title song — set against Tylesova’s stunning peacock backdrop — provides one of the evening’s big highlights.

Listening to Picerno’s voice, it’s easy to understand The Phantom’s longing to hear her sing again. Others in the cast are good, but none can measure up to her operatic talents. When she first sings “Look With Your Heart” to her son, you realize the magnitude of her talents.

Murphy and Picerno prove both their vocal prowess and their crackling chemistry on the duet “Beneath a Moonless Night.”

The song “Love Never Dies” is, as one might expect, the best-known piece from the show... In context, it is a song designed to seduce, to brainwash the singer and the audience by stoking the fire of nostalgia into a roaring flame. Hearing Picerno sing it, you might just fall in love.
